UIA WORLD CONGRESS
2008
UIA World Congress: Turin, Italy – 29 June to 3 July The theme chosen for the event in 2008 is Transmitting Architecture. A title with two complementary sides: on the one hand architecture’s ability to communicate the meaning of what it does, both as design creation and for the deep social involvement it leads to; on the other architecture’s active role in perceiving positive energies and society’s emerging phenomena. Architecture presides over territorial transformation and talks to all the actors involved in this process, with the aim of asserting the right of all citizens to the quality of life and of the environment. RIBA International Conference 2007
2007
RIBA International Conference 2007 Paris, 26 - 27 October 2007 Paris has always championed new and fantastic buildings and in recent years has encouraged a surge in the construction of contemporary architecture. In 2007 this exciting and creative city will host the RIBA International Conference, the theme of which will be 'collaboration' – between architects on major projects; between architects internationally; between architects and other members of the consultancy team; and between architects and artists. Many of the world’s top architects have recognized the benefits of working closely with others, but what are the key ingredients of a successful collaborative relationship? What lessons might architects be able to learn from other industry professionals? The RIBA Conference will take place in Oscar Niemeyer's amazing headquarters of the French Communist Party - a building rarely opened to the public. Delegates will have the opportunity to tour the building, as well as participate in a comprehensive set of architectural study tours to important buildings in and around Paris. There will also be receptions at the Pompidou Centre (celebrating its 30th birthday this year), and at the new Cite de l’Architecture et Patrimoine (Europe’s largest architecture centre, which opens in September). Speakers will include leading international architects, including Will Alsop, Mike Davies, Odile Decq, Spencer de Grey, Jean Nouvel, Sunand Prasad and Rafael Vinoly, while Oscar Niemeyer, who will turn 100 in December, will address the conference via video. The conference will also feature luminaries from the world of film and art, such as contemporary artist Bruce McLean and Duncan Kenworthy, the producer of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Love Actually. With such an impressive line-up of speakers and an extensive programme of talks and tours we have no doubt that the conference will be very popular, so book your place now to avoid missing out. For more information and to book your place please visit www.architecture.com Full delegate rate is £399 + VAT. Foster + Partners are generously fully funding a young architects bursary scheme which will offer 50 places to architects and architectural students under 30 from the UK and overseas, reducing the cost of a place to £99 + VAT. Recipients of bursaries, like all other conference attendees, will need to pay for their own travel and accommodation. In order to apply for a bursary please contact Tony Chapman, Head of Awards at RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London, W1B 1AD, tony.chapman@inst.riba.org stating how you feel you will benefit from attending the conference and why you feel your place should be subsidized. The deadline for applications is Friday 17 August. This scheme is fully funded by Foster + Partners PARIS
